ARTIST NOTES:
Melbourne based trio Mr Jigga are Ben Hense, Darcy Mcfall and Sam Schroder, three multi instrumentalists who met long ago with a shared passion for creating and producing music. Over the years there have been a couple of EP's some vinyl and many tracks recorded. Of note 2008 has been a good of year for the Mr Jigga production team who took some time off from gigs to finish the album and also to build 'treehouse studios', it was here most of the new album was produced, recorded and mixed by the trio. They have teamed up with some fine guest vocalists Julia Deans, Adam Ferns, Tony Kopa, Jade Macrae, Jules McKenzie, and Elle Skies who have written some spectacular vocals on the new self titled Mr Jigga album. There's a rich tapestry of sounds on the albums 13 songs, which flow from uptempo synthy 80's disco and deeper dark numbers, to indietronica, electro soul, and lush downtempo, best you have a listen or we'll be here all day.
While they locked themselves away in the studio in between getting splashed with milkshake for their album photos, tracks from their previously released Garage Party and Electron Maker were (and are) being used for soundtracks in Film and Television (Underbelly).
From humble beginnings in bedroom studio's and live gigs at various clubs and venues in Melbourne, Mr Jigga have managed to perform at some larger festivals and shows around Australia. The live show is what in the past has set them apart from other electronica acts, with an 8 piece band which incorporates musicians and vocalists, the lear jet is generally pretty full, although they have also been working on a stripped back DJ club show as well.
Along the way they've toured up and down the east coast of Australia, played international support spots for 2 Many Dj's, Derrick Carter, Crazy Penis, Jamiroquai tour support in Melbourne and Sydney with The Avalanches DJ show and Sneaky Sound System, played at Good Vibrations Festival, Falls Festival (NYE Countdown) and We Love Festival (before Felix Da Housecat), More live shows are being planned around Australia with a new live setup over the next few months as Mr Jigga launch their album.
